We’ve funded important ‘no anchor zone’ in partnership with the Marine Conservation Society

By Jhon Doe

OUR CO-FOUNDER HOWARD’S PASSION FOR THE SEA, DATING BACK TO HIS FORMATIVE YEARS IN SALCOMBE WHILE LEARNING TO SAIL AROUND THE ESTUARY, MEANT THAT WHEN LAUNCHING SALCOMBE DISTILLING CO. HE WANTED TO DO MORE THAN JUST CREATE EXCEPTIONAL SPIRITS. IT WAS IMPORTANT TO HOWARD THAT NEW LONDON LIGHT HELPED TO PROTECT THE OCEAN THAT INSPIRES ALL THAT WE DO.

We have recently installed six ‘no anchor zone’ buoys off the coast of Portland harbour in partnership with the marine conservation society. Our ‘1% for the ocean’ initiative has enabled us to help safeguard an incredible 300,000m² of seagrass habitat, meaning that together with our customers, we are having a positive impact on the environment.

Protecting our oceans

By preventing boats from anchoring in the ‘no anchor zone’, the area can continue to act as a home for marine life, while protecting the seagrass bed. By monitoring the buoys in the ‘no anchor zone’ over the next three years, the Marine Conservation Society will be able to observe the success of this initiative.

Watch Howard as he heads out on the water in Portland Harbour to install the buoys with the Marine Conservation Society.

We’re extremely proud that this is the first of our ‘1% for the Ocean’ key projects, funded by donations from sales of New London Light and selected bottles of Salcombe Gin.
